Cell Phones in Courts

This is huge news.

Starting May 1st, you will not be sent back to the parking lot by the court security deputy because you have your cell phone on you as you try to enter a state court in Michigan.

This may have merely been an inconvenience for you, to walk back to your car to store you phone in your car. But for so many others, it was a true barrier to accessing justice. If you had taken public transit, or an Uber or Lyft, or had a friend drop you off, well, you had no car sitting in the parking lot waiting for you to walk back to.

Hurrah to the Michigan Supreme Court for recognizing this.
